Encouraged by the Ballad's success, we've decided to expand it into a feature-length film. We are currently working on the screenplay, which we hope to finish by late spring, or late summer, or late fall.

The Festivals of Sandeep

We are proud to announce that The Ballad of Sandeep is an official selection of: Las Vegas Cinefest, The Other Venice Film Festival, The Albuquerque Film Festival, The Twin Cities Film Fest, and the Jersey Shore Film Festival.

Derek, Deep, Bud, Brian, and Gil will be making the trip to Vegas in late August. We'll be sure to inform you of any deaths that occur as a result of their attendance.

Fade to Yellow

Up from the ashes, once more to the well.

The Minor Prophets will present Fade to Yellow, an evening of short films and live comedy, on Friday, April 15th, on the Trocadero's main stage. Admission is $10. Doors open at 8, show begins at 9.

In addition to the full-length stage show (which features all-new live material), we'll be screening our latest collaboration with director Derek Frey, The Ballad of Sandeep, a short film starring Deep Roy (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Eastbound and Down). And we have just learned that Deep Roy himself will be in attendance the night of the 15th.

A piece of advice: don't not go.

The Ballad of Sandeep

We have just concluded principal photography on The Ballad of Sandeep, a short film starring the illustrious and magnanimous Deep Roy. You may know Deep from his role as the Oompa-Loompa(s) in Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The Ballad of Sandeep, written by the Prophets and directed by Derek Frey, is the tragicomic story of computer programmer Sandeep Majumdar: slave, clown, hero. It should be ready for viewing in spring 2011.

Prophets Eaten Alive by Families

At a barbecue last weekend, the four of us were eaten alive by our families. Horrific, yes, but there’s no need for alarm; these things happen from time to time. We’ll tough it out, just as we always have. Expect a long email upon our excretion. Thanks in advance for your support.

A Minor Screening

The Minor Prophets will join Vantine/Amadio for an evening of short films and live music on Saturday, February 7th, 8:00 p.m., at Milkboy Coffee, 2 Lancaster Ave., Ardmore, PA. Tickets are $7 at milkboy coffee.com, or $10 at the door.

Much to the liver’s delight, Milkboy Coffee is now BYOB. Our very own Bud Damon, the night’s master of ceremonies, will be manning the keg.

As for the films, we’ll be screening In Vino Veritas, America’s Game, and this month’s spotlight short, Mike and Paul.

The Minor Prophets will present an evening of Short Films and Live Comedy on Friday, November 28th, at the Balcony, 10th and Arch Streets, Philadelphia. Doors open at 8:30 p.m.; admission is $8.

To open the show (a reprise of our recent Khyber outing), we’ll be screening a pair of hi-def shorts produced in collaboration with director Derek Frey: the Cannes-tested 4th and 99, and the never-before-seen America’s Game.

Don’t forget to stick around for the after-party, hosted by DJ Leftovers.

Awe-tumn has come.

After a three-year hiatus, The Minor Prophets are returning to the stage for an evening of short films and live comedy, on Friday, October 24th, 9:00 p.m., at the Khyber, 56 S. Second St., Philadelphia.

The $9 admission fee (tickets can also be purchased online at www.thekhyber.com) scores you three new sketches and three new films, not to mention the uncommon artistry of opening musical acts The Suspense and Pleasing Misha.
